Mysimba has attracted considerable attention from the medical community as one of the few, new options for treating obesity with medicine. For a long time, physicians in Europe have expressed concerns about the lack of choices in treating obesity; although multiple weight-loss drugs had already been approved for use in the US, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) were much more reluctant in introducing such drugs to the European market, citing safety concerns.
The approval of Mysimba in March 2015 thus came as a welcome treat for many in the medical community and patients suffering from weight loss issues. With Mysimba launched in Spain recently in January 2017, it’s a matter of time until patients in Europe can begin to use Mysimba. Where, then, can patients buy Mysimba?
An important thing to note is that Mysimba is a prescription drug. It’s not an over-the-counter drug, meaning that consultation with a doctor is necessary to purchase Mysimba. Unfortunately, patients cannot simply walk into a pharmacy to buy Mysimba. This is because various side effects have been reported for Mysimba, and physicians are only allowed to proceed with treatment if patients fall under certain criteria.
Am I eligible?
If patients want to buy Mysimba, they must first go see a physician to see whether they are eligible. In any case, physicians and patients are recommended to consider receiving diet and lifestyle advice before considering more intense treatment options.
If changing daily habits weren’t helpful, patients can then start looking into treatment with Mysimba. Mysimba will not be the best choice for everyone – it’s more suitable for people who are seriously obese.
It will be an option if patients have a body mass index (BMI) of 30kg/m2 or over, or if they have a BMI ranging between 27kg/m2 – 30kg/m2 and suffer from obesity-related complications like type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, or controlled hypertension.
After 4 months, physicians must assess how effective the treatment was. Patients are only allowed to proceed further if they lost more than 5% of their weight during this time period. Otherwise, the benefits are too negligible when weighed in with side effects and risk factors, and patients must discontinue using Mysimba.
Mysimba for sale: when, where, and at what cost
If you are eligible for treatment with Mysimba, your doctor will give you a prescription that you can take to pharmacies handling Mysimba.
Pharmacies will have Mysimba for sale soon – however since Mysimba had only been launched recently in Spain, your local pharmacy may not have them in stock yet. Depending on the country you live in, you may also have to wait further for Mysimba to be launched in your region. For the UK and Ireland, the distributor anticipates that Mysimba will be available around the second quarter of 2017.
Mysimba price is yet to be determined. However, experts estimate that this will be around £472 for a year, based on prices of the same drug in the US. Mysimba price will also differ among countries in the EU, as the health system varies among countries.
Uncertainties surrounding Mysimba
The EMA approved Mysimba since they decided that the net benefits were larger than the negatives. However, some experts do argue that the benefits are too moderate when taking into consideration the side effects patients suffer and the risks they get exposed to.
For this reason, some jurisdictions may independently decide not to prescribe Mysimba – some physician associations are considering placing Mysimba on a list that dissuades other physicians from prescribing certain drugs. If this happens, patients living in those regions would face challenges to purchasing Mysimba.
Precautions when you buy Mysimba
The pharmaceutical industry is tightly regulated for a reason. It sets strict guidelines in place so that drugs bring benefit to those that take them, rather than unwittingly expose them to danger.
Diet pills are not all the same; some inflate in your stomach to make you feel satiated, some others help burn fat, and some others block carbohydrates from being absorbed by your body. Mysimba is a drug that works by influencing processes in your brain that feel hunger. In doing so, it curbs your appetite. The active ingredients in Mysimba influence the process that makes something feel rewarding, for example, feeling full after a nice meal.
Mysimba takers in research trials experienced symptoms like nausea, constipation, and headaches. These symptoms may be bothersome, but at the same time, patients can also cope with it by simply choosing not to take Mysimba. In more severe cases, however, patients can experience negative influences on their mental health. This is especially of concern if the patient already suffers from symptoms of depression. In fact, some patients in Mysimba trials did report negative effects on their mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
Moreover, it is still unclear whether, and to what extent, Mysimba affects the cardiovascular system. Research is still ongoing in this area. As well, there have been reports of Mysimba causing seizures for some people. Without close communication with a physician, patients risk developing complications or worsening preexisting conditions. Mysimba should be taken only when there is approval from a physician.
Is Mysimba really for me?
Mysimba brings new hope for patients that couldn’t lose weight with changing lifestyle habits and adding exercise. Mysimba could also help some people lose weight without having to feel hungry. On the other hand, Mysimba exposes patients to unpleasant side effects and a host of other risk factors. For your own safety, visit a physician to see if you’re eligible for treatment with Mysimba. If so, listen to their instructions carefully and buy Mysimba from a trusted pharmacy. Never make purchases from vendors that offer it for suspiciously low prices – you may become a victim of fake medicine.
The best weight-loss method will differ from person to person. If Mysimba is not right for you, there are a wealth of other options available, including programs run by the government (e.g. NHS) or commercial services. Speak to a professional to find out what method would give you the biggest net benefit.
- Always consult a physician before purchasing Mysimba.
