Mysimba is the new hype in treating obesity in Europe. Approved in March 2015, Mysimba became the third weight-loss drug to be approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). It’s no surprise then that this was welcomed by physicians and patients across Europe.
Unlike weight-loss medicines that promote fat-burning or pills that expand in the stomach, Mysimba works by influencing the brain. The active ingredients act on processes related to feeling hunger, ultimately curbing down on appetite. Mysimba is a prescription drug – it’s not an over-the-counter drug, in which patients can simply walk into a pharmacy and buy their share. To buy Mysimba, a doctor’s prescription is necessary.
Although the worry-free option would be to buy Mysimba from an in-person pharmacy that the doctor recommends, purchasing them from online pharmacies is also an option for those who prefer to do so.
Here are some step-by-step tips for those who want to buy Mysimba online.
- Get a medical exam from a physician
When the EMA approved Mysimba, they set detailed guidelines outlining who is eligible for treatment with Mysimba. It is recommended that all patients first consider changing daily habits by receiving lifestyle advice. If this is ineffective, the patient can then consult their physician about treatment with Mysimba.
Mysimba is a drug that is designed for those who are seriously obese. To be eligible for treatment with Mysimba, the patient must either have a body mass index (BMI) over 30kg/m2 or have a BMI of 27kg/m2 to 30kg/m2 with additional obesity-related health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure. Even if patients fall under this range, they may not be eligible if they have mental health issues or allergies to Mysimba ingredients.
- Take the prescription to an online pharmacy
Once the physician issues a prescription, the patient may send this information to an online pharmacy. In some cases, vendors will have their own group of affiliated doctors who offer consultation online. Once the pharmacy receives this information, the patient can purchase Mysimba online. Trustworthy vendors that have Mysimba for sale online would then provide patients with further information about Mysimba so that it can be used appropriately. When in doubt, ask your healthcare provider for advice on which online (or offline) pharmacies to choose.
As Mysimba was just launched in Spain in January 2017, most pharmacies will not have Mysimba available for sale yet. Depending on the country of residence, some people may have to wait for an additional period of time until Mysimba supplies reach online pharmacies of their country. For the UK and Ireland, the distributor for Mysimba expects that the drug will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2017.
Mysimba price has not been confirmed either. Mysimba is sold in the US under a different brand name, Contrave. Based on Contrave prices in the US, Mysimba price for a year’s worth of treatment is estimated to be around £472.
When being treated with Mysimba, patients must get an assessment of their progress after 4 months. If patients do not see an improvement of 5% or more, they must not continue taking Mysimba, as the benefits are too small compared to the risks they become exposed to. If treatment with Mysimba is not the right option for you, there are other treatment types available, ranging from minimally invasive methods like exercise programs to more intense interventions like surgery.
- Watch out for fake pharmacies
In any industry, there are online shops that capitalize on their virtual-only presence to sell fake products or to charge consumers unreasonable sums of money. The pharmaceutical industry is not immune, and there will be “scammy” vendors that claim to offer Mysimba for sale online.
A tell-tale sign of such vendors is if they sell the product for free, or if they offer free trials. Mysimba isn’t cheap medication, and handing out Mysimba for free to an unspecified mass of people isn’t a logical thing for a business to do. It’s also possible that the vendor may have a “terms and conditions” associated with free samples that trick consumers into paying additional charges. For example, they may ask for your credit card information in exchange for the “free” product or trial. Days later, you may see bizarre charges on your bill, only to find out that the charges were laid out on the vendor’s terms and conditions in a misleading way.
Another thing to check is whether they ask for a prescription, or offer consultation services in lieu of a prescription. If they don’t, it’s a bad sign. Selling Mysimba to consumers directly without prescription is against the law; Mysimba is regulated and monitored closely for a good reason. In particular, there are serious known side effects as well as uncertainties associated with Mysimba. The EMA approved Mysimba because the overall pros outweighed the cons. However, in Mysimba trials, many patients experienced side effects like headaches, nausea, and constipation. The drop-out rate for Mysimba trials was unusually high, and experts believe that the side effects may have been too much to bear for some patients. In addition to this, it’s uncertain how Mysimba affects the cardiovascular system in the longer term; research is still ongoing in this area. What is worse is that Mysimba can sometimes affect mental health negatively, leading some people to have suicidal thoughts and serious depressive symptoms. Because of these reasons, it’s essential to receive guidance from a physician about taking Mysimba. No trustworthy pharmacy would allow a patient to purchase Mysimba online knowing that the doctor did not think it was suitable for them.
Should you really buy Mysimba online?
There are many reasons why people may want to buy Mysimba online. In addition to the convenience, some patients may not have access to Mysimba even if they are eligible, as physician associations in their region may independently lobby against using Mysimba.
Consulting a healthcare professional for advice will minimize the risk of becoming a victim of fraud. If choosing vendors online at your own discretion, watch out for signs of a scam. Fake medication not only hurts your wallet but puts your health and well-being at risk.
- Always follow guidelines and instructions when taking Mysimba.
